MSc in Hospital Administration for Nursing Graduates

A 3 year study program affiliated to the Netaji Subhas Open University, Kolkatta, the MSc Hospital Administration is open to the nurses who have passed BSc (Nursing).

The curriculum is structured around 4 Key Areas:

1. Organization, control and management of hospitals, rehabilitation centres and medical practices in different health systems, Macro- and Microeconomics of healthcare, Trends in the international healthcare industry and their implications.
2. Accounting, Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Controlling, Strategic Management, Marketing Management, Market-orientated Hospital Management.
3. Quality and Process Management, inclusive a Six Sigma Healthcare Training, Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, IT, Quality Management, Information and Knowledge Management.
4. Organisational Behaviour, Structure, Leadership, and Culture, Human Resources & Intercultural Management, Communications, Personal Build-up Training, Self –management.

1st Year

PG:NHA:13 Social Psychology, Law and Ethics in Healthcare
PG:NHA:14 Epidemiology & Statistical Research (project)

2nd Year
PG:NHA:21 Design & administration of Health Service Systems
PG:NHA:22 Managing Financial Resources and Hospital Control
PG:NHA:23 Hospital Environment & Support Services
PG:NHA:24 Methods of Heath Services Research (project)

3rd Year
PG:NHA:31 Quality and Process Management in Health Care
PG:NHA:32 Human Resource Management in Hospitals
PG:NHA:33 Value Chain Management
PG:NHA:34 Medical Informatics, Indices and Audit


Each area will be spread over 3 years in the form of one paper each. Each paper could have 4 modules and each module may be divided into 2 theoretical and 2 practical units.

The course is likely to start with effect from July 2006.
